Bye Bye Birdie - 2015

The Summer Theatre Program is a ministry co-sponsored by Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Springfield, VA, and Bishop Ireton High School in Alexandria, VA. Started in 1997, STP has become a hallmark of the region's programming for high school youth. Celebrating its twenty-first year, this Program seeks to offer students of all skills, abilities, and experience the opportunity to be a part of a theatrical production. In so doing, the students become a community and instill within each other a trust, confidence, and abiding joy that carries over into daily life.

Audition Period for Joseph Extended

Due to overwhelming demand, travel complications brought on by last Thursday’s severe storms, and technical difficulties that hampered the publication of our audition announcements, we are extending the audition period through Saturday, June 11.  Eligible students who still wish to audition have two audition options:

Option 1: Submit a recorded video audition. Between now and noon Sunday, June 12, submit a recorded video audition of you singing 30-60 seconds of a song of your choosing.  Audition videos should be emailed to info@summertheatreprogram.org.  Your recording may be accompanied or acapella; however, if it is accompanied, ensure we can hear your voice clearly.  As this show is entirely sung through, please convey emotion and character in your singing.  In addition to submitting your video, please also attach a completed copy of the audition form

Option 2: Attend an in-person audition on Friday, June 10.  We will hold one additional in-person audition session this Friday, June 10 at 6:30 p.m. at Saint Bernadette Church in the school music room.  (Enter by the gym.)  Come prepared to sing a few bars of a song of your choosing and to dance a small routine that will be taught at auditions.  Audition forms will be available or can be printed at home and brought to auditions.  With few exceptions, once your audition is complete you will be free to go.

Auditions are open to all current 7th thru 12th grade students (rising 8th through rising college freshmen).  We also welcome back previous STP cast members from the classes of 2020 and 2021 to audition.  Please note, casting priorities will first go to the regularly eligible classes.  The STP Audition Policy is available here.  Please review it so you will know what to expect at your audition and to get some tips in preparing for your audition.  The performances for Joseph & the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will be July 28-30, 2022.

STP Makes a Triumphant Return to Live Programming

Triumph Over Tragedy: The Summer Theatre Program returns to live programming!

On Friday, July 23, we raise the curtain on the Summer Theatre Program as we welcome back all junior high, high school aged students, and rising college freshmen for the first Ministry Night in nearly two years!  In addition, all STP Alumni are welcome to this long overdue Reunion as together we celebrate our return to in-person programming.

Beginning at 7pm, the evening will feature an opportunity to come together in fellowship, catch-up, welcome new members, and engage in a few favorite ministry night activities.

Friday's welcome back event is just the first day.  There is more yet to come as we prepare focused workshops on acting, music, dance, stage combat, and other areas to get you ready for that first audition.  As for our own performances, we look forward to their return and the celebration of our 25th Anniversary in July 2022!

For now, we join the chorus throughout the country and the world praying for the health and safety of everyone.
